Coronavirus: NHS nurses informed 'lives can be made hell'

Hospital nurses have been informed their "lives can be made hell" in the event that they complained over situations on a coronavirus ward, a union has claimed.

Unison has raised a bunch grievance for 36 staff, most of them nurses, at Nottingham College Hospitals Belief.

It stated workers on the Queen's Medical Centre ward weren't educated correctly, confronted bullying for elevating issues and denied PPE "as punishment".

The belief stated the allegations have been "very troubling".

The union stated the workers, which included nurses, senior nurses and healthcare assistants, volunteered to work on the hospital's solely ward coping with end-of-life coronavirus sufferers.

It claimed they weren't given any specialist coaching or counselling for coping with dying sufferers and their grieving family members.

An nameless member of workers described it as "extremely irritating".

"Usually, the palliative care staff who cope with end-of-life sufferers deal with 200 deaths every year - we handled 185 in simply 10 weeks," they stated.

"Individuals doing that job usually obtain excessive ranges of coaching and assist due to the stress. We had none of that."

Dave Ratchford, from Unison, stated workers have been unprepared for coping with such excessive frequency of loss of life and may have had entry to psychological assist.

He stated after the staff raised issues, administration have been "hostile" and locked away PPE "as punishment".

One other employee stated a board with everybody's file of illness was placed on show in a break room to intimidate workers.

"That is completely surprising stuff," added Mr Ratchford.

"We're speaking a few very high-performing staff who fell foul of a tradition that allows bullying and fails to deal with it.

"Employees have been informed their lives can be made hell for complaining."

The staff stated that they had skilled the remedy from April, in the course of the peak of the coronavirus disaster, till this month.

Dr Neil Pease, of the belief, stated he was "upset" to listen to concerning the issues and added: "We vastly worth our workers for the unbelievable dedication and resilience they've proven in the course of the pandemic.

"They've achieved superb issues within the face of actually unprecedented challenges, so to listen to of those grievances could be very troubling certainly.

"Bullying and harassment usually are not tolerated in our organisation."
